Helping young people reach their full potential.

YOUTH OPPORTUNITY

At United Way, we want all kids to soar. So we work with the people who care for them — from families and neighbors, to schools and community agencies  — to connect young people with the support they need.

Education is the cornerstone for success in school, work and life that benefits our entire community. United Way looks at the big picture to identify what resources are lacking or need strengthening, and how we can address those gaps collaboratively.

IMAGINATION LIBRARY

From cradle to career, reading will help kids experience lifelong success. That means helping them get a strong start, continuing to spark their curiosity and making sure teachers, caregivers and parents can better support children’s healthy growth and development. When all kids have access to quality education they have brighter futures and help make our community stronger.

We all want our children to thrive and reach their greatest potential. Building the foundation for successful learning begins at a young age. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a free resource that puts books in the hands of children ages 0-5. The Beaufort-Hyde Partnership for Children leads this vital work for our Beaufort and Hyde communities. BORN LEARNING TRAILS

The Born Learning Trail provides a fun way for parents/caregivers to interact with children from newborn to age five. The trail, a 10‐station circuit course with learning activities at each station, is marked in English and Spanish.

Born Learning is an innovative public engagement activity that helps parents, caregivers and communities create quality early learning opportunities for young children.

Stop! Learn! Play!  Encourages parents and caregivers to follow the child’s lead, building the child’s curiosity and confidence, and reinforcing the learning already under way.

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

Launching in the near future.

Community Schools are an evidence-based, place-based strategy—not a program.

We believe community schools provide students and families with the resources, opportunities, and support systems they need to succeed. Together, we transform our local schools into district-wide hubs of service to ensure all students learn, grow, and thrive.

The community school strategy encompasses four pillars that together create the conditions necessary for students and families to thrive:

Community Schools are public schools that partner with community to create the conditions necessary for students and families to thrive inside and outside of the classroom.
